Large Organization Communications

There are two ways you can communicate as a large organization with multiple departments and one audience.

1) You can communicate as distinct parts. The upside is that each part develops its own voice and is able to push forward its own agenda. The downside is that each part is jockeying for position against the others. This leads to internal strife and ultimately a distracted, schizophrenic organization.

2) You can communicate as one body with multiple parts. This forces you to only talk about a couple of things at once. The downside is that the parts that aren’t being talked about right now can feel slighted, especially if they’ve been at the forefront before. The upside is that your message and your activities are very focused. And when you’re focused you can accomplish way more than if you’re distracted.

Best case scenario is when the parts that aren’t the focus start helping parts that are the focus. That’s real collaboration.
